BACK is Sweden’s most interesting and awarded fashion brand. The line was launched in 2005 as a diffusion line to the more exclusive mainline Ann-Sofie Back Atelje. BACK is available in 20 markets worldwide and is known for it’s innovative yet wearable design.
Ann-Sofie Back is one of Sweden’s original bad-boys when it comes to breaking the conventions of fashion. This said, naturally, workwear and practical clothes are one of her pet-hates and thus where she looked for inspiration for her AW13 collection.
Luckily the bad-boy grew up and is now running Sweden’s most interesting fashion house together with business partner Jennie Rosen. In 2012 the company has increased sales with 60% worldwide with their diffusion line BACK. The mainline Ann-Sofie Back Atelje is still the most interesting and high end collection coming out of Sweden today and the only Swedish brand apart from Acne, featured on style.com.
Even though BACK this time has moved into workwear (an unexplored area for Ann-Sofie) the core of BACK is based on ideas from previous mainline collections. You will see glimpses of SS03, AW05, SS05 and SS06 for example.
The most prominent fabrics are heavy, synthetic drills in bright colours, washed out tencels, kaleidoscope sequins, both as prints and not (not so workwear but very 2002!), fleece-teddy, largescale tulle net, checked flannels, wct and patterned linings, all with contrast stitching and gold trimmings.
Colours are besides black and white: gold, bright yellow, cobalt, icy grey, warm brown and navy.
The styling is as before both clean and eclectic, bringing a variety of inspirations together in an unexpected way. Rather than having the chains copy you, copy yourself!
